Collection Development Librarian Hunter Library at Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC

Western Carolina University’s Hunter Library seeks a Collection Development Librarian to provide leadership in acquiring library resources in a variety of formats and to assist in managing the Collection Development and Resources Management Unit, including direct supervision of acquisitions functions.  This position will articulate the direction, balance and emphasis of all collections, as well as formulate policies.  The Collection Development Librarian will coordinate and support the work of the liaisons to academic departments in their efforts to develop collections in their areas, and will direct the work of 2 support staff in acquiring library monographic materials.  This position will also work with the teaching faculty who are planning new programs or courses or preparing for accreditation visits.  Other duties include budget allocation and management; monitoring publishing trends in all formats; and cooperative collection development in the context of a three institution consortium.  This librarian will play a key role in analyzing the use of library resources, assessing the collection, and staying abreast of trends in scholarly communication.  The successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward-thinking, collaborative, and up to the challenge of providing necessary resources for a variety of programs, including online and distance education initiatives. 

This position is expected to work closely with the Head of Collection Development and Resources Management, to whom the position reports, as well as collaborate with the Cataloging Unit.  The position will also act as liaison to one or more academic departments.  The library’s size and culture allow for involvement in many areas, including providing library instruction and/or reference service.  Library faculty are highly engaged in library planning and policy-making. 

Required Qualifications: 

Masters of Library Science from an ALA accredited school and experience in collection development or acquisitions work; experience in supervising others. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience in collection assessment including quantitative analysis, and as a liaison with teaching faculty; experience with budget projections, allocations and reports; experience with acquisitions module of an integrated library system (preferably III Millennium); experience negotiating and acquiring electronic resources; experience with spreadsheets and databases; strong analytical and organizational skills.

position with a generous 24 days of vacation leave annually.

Library Associates Companies (LAC) is seeking a Serials Cataloger for a serials retrospective conversion project for a large U.S. government library. This position is in Beltsville, MD.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
·          Search serial titles in OCLC WorldCat to identify and download any matching serial bibliographic records available into Ex Libris Voyager.
·          Verify/correct bibliographic data, including name and series access points, on existing bibliographic records in accordance with AACR2 Rev., LCRI and the CONSER Standard Record Metadata Application Profile (CSR MAP), and CONSER Editing Guide (CEG), in Voyager and OCLC databases.
·          Add appropriate LC subject headings (LCSH) and classification numbers as needed to the OCLC record before importing into Voyager.
·          Provide appropriate linking to existing OCLC and Voyager records for related serials.
·          Create, as necessary, name authority records in OCLC according to NACO guidelines.
·          Update holdings in OCLC to reflect Library’s ownership of the title.
QUALIFICATIONS:
·          Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent.
·          A minimum of 3 years current serials cataloging experience;
·          2-3 years experience in an academic or research library with 2 years of original serials cataloging experience using an automated cataloging system (ILS) and OCLC’s WorldCat.
·          Working knowledge of and experience in using AACR2 Rev., LCRI, LCCS, LCSH, CONSER guidelines and MARC21 formats for bibliographic holdings and authority control.
·          Experience with Ex Libris Voyager preferred.
·          Working knowledge of one or more modern European languages.
·          Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
·          Detail-oriented, ability to work independently and in a team situation.

Ingram Library seeks a team player and forward thinker to join our faculty as our Serials and Electronic Resources Cataloger.  Reporting to the Senior Cataloger and in close coordination with Acquisitions/Serials, Government Documents, and other departments, this person catalogs serials in all formats, maintains related records, and catalogs electronic and other resources. Twelve-month, tenure-track position with appointment at Instructor or Assistant Professor rank.  RESPONSIBILITIES: Catalogs serials in all formats, maintains related records, and catalogs electronic and other resources; works with other departments with serials and/or cataloging tasks; serves as liaison to assigned academic departments, which includes collection development and bibliographic instruction; provides reference service within the day, evening, and weekend rotation schedule of the library; and performs other professional duties as assigned. As a full member of the campus faculty, professional contributions and service to the institution are required for merit and promotion.  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS. Demonstrated knowledge of principles of cataloging, AACR2, MARC 21 formats, LC classification and subject headings, OCLC, and issues/trends in managing electronic resources. Must be detail-oriented and have strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills. Second graduate degree required for appointment above Instructor rank or within time period specified to fulfill campus promotion/tenure requirements. Must be eligible to work permanently in the U.S and pass criminal background check. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Post-MLS cataloging experience, preferably serials, on OCLC in an academic library. Experience with integrated library system, preferably Voyager. Experience managing electronic journal holdings.   Salary: $42,000 minimum. The Gelman Library System seeks applications for the position of Electronic Resources Content Manager.  The Gelman Library System is looking for an enthusiastic, detail oriented and creative-thinking individual to provide technical development and support for the Library’s electronic content discovery and delivery systems. Gelman Library uses SFX for openURL resolution, MetaLib for federated searching, Serials Solutions 360 Resource Manager for electronic resource management, 360 Counter for electronic resource usage tracking, and  Medialab Solutions’ AquaBrowser discovery tool.

This position is responsible for the technical content management of all library electronic resources, i.e., electronic books, journals, and databases.  The Electronic Resources Content Manager will be the primary contact for members of Collection Development and Content Management in the support of and access to licensed, purchased, and open access electronic resources.  He or she will be expected to liaise heavily with Library Public Services, other users, stakeholders and the Library Information Technology team.  

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, participating in the planning, development, and management of a broad range of library electronic services such as electronic journals, aggregator databases and other electronic data; participating as a member of a team charged with evaluating and developing user interfaces; maintaining remote access server (EZproxy); managing access to individual electronic serials subscriptions and periodical packages; overall management of the Gelman Library System electronic resources management system (360 Resource Manager), assisting in the design and maintenance of the library web presence; supervising one fulltime staff member, and assisting/supervising other library personnel or student assistants.  This position reports to the Director of Content Management.
 Basic Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited library program, or a Master’s degree in a related information technology field, such as Computer Science (CS), Management of Information Systems (MIS), or Master of Information Management (MIM).Two years of professional-level library experience beyond the Master’s degree;

OR

BS/BA degree in an information management related field plus three years experience working with electronic resources in libraries such as link resolver software, federated searching tools, electronic resource management systems, digitization projects 

2. Demonstrated mastery (through job experience or advanced coursework) of Information Technology concepts related to electronic resources and digital content management

3. Coursework and/or experience working with XHTML, XML, XSLT, CSS and metadata standards (MARCXXI, MODS, EAD, DC)

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

Evidence of experience with:

  • new alternatives for managing and accessing electronic resources
  • usage statistics for electronic resources
  • integrated library systems (Voyager preferred)
  • web editing tools like Dreamweaver, and XML tools like XMLSpy  or oXygen XML Editor
  • UNIX/Linux and scripting/programming languages, preferably PHP, Perl and JavaScript
  • SFX, MetaLib, AquaBrowser, 360 Resource Manager and 360 Counter

Knowledge of current trends in library management systems

Knowledge of web-based publishing

Familiarity with the mission of memory institutions (Libraries, Archives, Museums) including business processes and policy issues related to digital content
