Processing Supervisor for Library Associates Companies (LAC), New Orleans, LA

Library Associates Companies (LAC) is seeking candidates for immediate consideration for the position of Processing Supervisor.  The primary role of the Processing Supervisor is to oversee the workflow in the Processing Area and to develop and oversee the procedures for the processing function areas supervised.  The Processing Supervisor has oversight of the Processing Area, which includes Bindery, Processing, and Shelving with inputs from Acquisitions, Cataloging, and special HTML projects. The Processing Supervisor reports directly to the Project Manager and supervises the Processing Team staff members.Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise Processing Area staff (currently Processing staff includes one Shelving Supervisor, one Processing Technician, three Library Assistants, and two Labeling Clerks).
  • Set daily assignments and priorities for all staff in processing area.
  • Provide oversight for Belfor reinstatement portion of the project.
  • Coordinate processing with both Cataloging and Acquisitions teams.
  • Provide oversight for Government Documents sorting, shelving, and basic inventory of items being withdrawn from the collection.
  • Train new Processing staff members and ensure their following of established procedures.
  • Provide ongoing quality control (QC) to ensure that all processed materials accurately follow our client’s processing documentation.
  • Trouble-shoot problems, and handle difficult or problematic items including obtaining and implementing judgments as to best practices for unique items.
  • Perform standard processing and/or labeling tasks to maintain workflow, as is necessary.
  • Provide semi-monthly reports to Project Manager regarding work and progress made by Processing Area staff.
  • Write and maintain procedure manuals for assigned special projects and for specific tasks.
  • Prepare shipments to HTML and oversee remote shelving.
  • Participate in meetings with our client’s principal points of contact, as needed, with regards to updates on the Processing Area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
 

 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a library setting performing tasks related to circulation, shelving, or physical processing.
  • Prior supervisory experience, and an effective management style.
  • Prior experience training and orienting employees.
  • Ability to use metrics effectively and to link staff duties to project goals.
  • Ability to work in a production-driven environment with constantly shifting priorities and demands.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Voyager or other library integrated system (ILS).
Knowledge of Dewey, LC, and SuDoc classification schemes.

Experience in an academic library.

Electronic Collections Librarian Sterling Memorial Library Yale University, New Haven, CT

Reporting to the Head of Electronic Collections, the Electronic Collections Librarian assumes both a leadership and liaison role in working with staff from all areas of the Library to support electronic collections development and management. Provides support as needed across the library system, particularly selectors, but also technical services staff in Acquisitions and Cataloging & Metadata Services.   

Responsibilities Serves as a key participant and/or leader in the acquisition, management, and evaluation of electronic resources to ensure consistent and integrated access for the Yale University Library (YUL).  Works across the entire YUL, serving as Selector/Collection Unit Coordinator for electronic resources that cross more than two libraries or subject areas.  Develops and/or manages the development of policies, procedures, best practices, and documentation with detailed guidelines for managing the lifecycle of electronic resources.  Leads ERM (Electronic Resources Management system, Verde software) library-wide activities, which are delegated to others and/or coordinated across the YUL system.  Provides training and information as needed across the library system, including selectors, as well as technical services staff in Acquisitions and Cataloging & Metadata Services.  Serves as a key participant and/or leader in understanding and developing the best ways to manage the lifecycle of major interdisciplinary electronic resource packages at YUL.  Serves as a key participant and/or leader in YUL’s e-Access Troubleshooting service.  Participates on the staff license review, negotiating, and compliance processes, for delivery to the Associate University Librarian (AUL). 

Leads and/or coordinates authentication and authorization issues for electronic resources, communicating as appropriate with vendors, selectors, AUL, and others.  Monitors trends in emerging technologies, business models, and licensing of electronic resources.  Works with Head of Electronic Collections to nurture effective relationships with e-resource suppliers and publishers, for the benefit of the YUL system.  Expected to be professionally active and to serve on select Library-wide committees.  Participates in and contributes to library long-term planning and is professionally active in library, scholarly and/or academic organizations.   Represents the Library and the University in the academic and professional community by serving on various committees and task forces.  May supervise non-exempt staff.  May be required to assist with disaster recovery efforts.  May be assigned to work at West Campus location in West Haven, CT.   

Qualifications Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program of library and information science, and five years of professional library experience and demonstrated professional accomplishments appropriate to the rank.  At least two years of directly applicable experience in the procurement, licensing, and management of electronic resources; and relevant additional experience which may be in related areas such as e-resources collections development, library publishing, or library technical activities.  Appointment to the rank of Librarian IV requires eight years of professional library experience and demonstrated professional accomplishments appropriate to the rank. 

The position requires knowledge of the complex, ever-changing electronic publishing environment and scholarly communications issues. Must have the ability to work with a varied user groups and function effectively in a team environment and in a complex and culturally diverse organization. Excellent oral and written communication and training skills are required. Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills are required. Evidence of high productivity when working independently or in groups, as changing situations is required. Previous specific activities in one or more of the following areas are required: acquisitions operations related to licensed electronic resources, using and instructing in the use of information technologies, reviewing and identifying issues with license agreements for electronic resources, using an Integrated Library System and/or an Electronic Resource Management system. 

  Preferred: Experience supporting an OpenURL resolver and metasearch software; experience providing troubleshooting for problem reports; familiarity or experience working with Library vendors ExLibris SFX, Verde, and MetLib.  Knowledge of scholarly communication industry norms and practices of information technology; demonstrated skills in project management; skill in “translating” between the world of electronic resources and traditional library formats; ability to supervise and mentor non-exempt staff.

The University of Cincinnati invites applications for the position of Collections & Electronic Resources Librarian.  This faculty position reports to and receives direction from the Head, Electronic Resources Department.

We seek a service-oriented individual committed to quality service in the delivery of access to our premier electronic collections.  The Collections and Electronic Resources Librarian works collaboratively with library deans, faculty, staff, and users, as well as vendors and publishers, in the performance of collections and electronic resources management duties.

The University of Cincinnati Libraries provide access to research collections of more than 3.2 million volumes, 60,000+ serial titles, primarily electronic.  Over 50% of the materials budget is directed toward e-resources.  Nearly 150,000 unique titles are managed through our e-resource portal.  

As a member of the Technical Services Team, participates in library electronic resource workflow including acquisition, licensing, activation, and trouble-shooting. Maintains related collection and usage statistics.  Assists bibliographers with collection management tools. Participates in III ERM module implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Participates in electronic resources workflow to ensure consistent and integrated access.  Working in a collaborative environment, creates, manages, and maintains resource, license, and contact records; develops and implements III electronic resource management system (ERM).

Has a lead role in providing public access to electronic resources including e-journals, e-databases, and e-books.  Monitors and troubleshoots access and content related issues with aggregators, vendors, and publishers related to various library portals such as the library catalog, the A-Z list of databases, the A-Z list of e-journals and the OpenURL resolver.

Manages electronic resource access with our knowledge base vendor (Serials Solutions). Updates and creates new connections for the Serials Solutions link resolver (Article Linker), and federated search (One Search).  Inputs data into the Serials Solutions client center and maintains accuracy of holdings data.

Administers new and existing licenses for electronic resources.

Reviews site licenses and agreements and tracks progress of licenses to point of activation.  Ensures that files of record are kept for UCL electronic resource licenses. Maintains ERM tracking for electronic resource licenses and licensing expressions. Works closely with the University Counsel to resolve license and contract issues.

Obtains and manages statistics, including assisting in  obtaining and managing usage data, collection statistics, and working with Web Team for continuous enhancement of user access paths.  Serves as a resource for selectors using online collection development tools including identification of new technologies, expertise in publisher and vendor websites, and training in collection management tools such as the library catalog or GOBI.

Participates as necessary in appropriate committees and organizations related to the duties and responsibilities of the Department, and in support of UC Libraries programs and organizations.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program; experience with an integrated library system in an academic library; proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs; ability to work independently and effectively across organization lines and in collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups; aptitude for detail oriented work, including strong analytic and problem solving skills; demonstrated organization, analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, service oriented, rapidly changing environment to accomplish mutual goals

Desired qualifications:  Experience with OhioLINK or another consortial arrangement; experience working with vendors and publishers; knowledge of electronic resources, including issues relating to their sources, acquisitions, organization, and use; ability to work with a variety of foreign languages.

Summary Accurately describe and classify library materials according to international standards
and local practice in order to make such materials accessible to patrons of the library and the
Museum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Perform original and complex copy cataloging for all monographic formats and languages by
searching appropriate documentation for existing records, and downloading or copying
appropriate records (including pre-acquisition searching).
• Make library materials accessible by assigning appropriate classification numbers to books
and catalogues, determining appropriate call numbers and main entries and processing
materials.
• Assist in the acquisition of library materials by creating order lists and purchase orders.
• Support the level of professionalism and standardization of the library catalog by maintaining
current awareness of MARC standards and LC cataloging practices and chanages,

Education and/or Experience
Master’s degree (M. A.) from an accredited library or information studies program.
Undergraduate degree in the humanities (art history or extensive art history coursework
preferred). One year cataloging experience preferred but recent graduates are encouraged to
apply. Working knowledge of AACRII, LCSH, OCLC, and USMARC format; experience with
integrated library systems and working knowledge of at least one foreign language.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to
recognize and interpret at least one foreign language.
