Responsibilities: Perform local administration functions for electronic resources, including connection to and configuration of vendors’ interfaces; Stay current on issues and developments related to electronic resources; Maintain electronic resources holdings menus in GALILEO, the University System of Georgia’s statewide library information system; Provides leadership in choosing system for e-journal access, within requirements set by GALILEO and other statewide projects; Use Serials Solutions or other service to maintain library’s e-journal holdings through the library web site; Work with library technical services in maintaining electronic resources holdings in GIL (Voyager online catalog); Recommend new databases and strategies to improve the library’s electronic resources in accordance with the library’s Electronic Resources Collection Development Policy; Work with vendors of electronic resources regarding trials, contracts and licensing, and e-journal interfaces; Maintain appropriate parts of the library’s electronic resources management spreadsheet; Maintain Library’s web pages which relate to electronic resources; Generate electronic resources usage reports needed for library assessment; Project costs relating to electronic resources for the coming year; Serve as primary library contact for users of all databases provided by the Library; Instruct patrons on how to use electronic resources and publicize this service; Participate in the general Library instruction program; Work at the Reference Desk approximately 5-8 hours per week; Contribute to the weekend reference desk rotation along with library faculty/part-time librarians; Participate in appropriate professional development activities.

This is a job-share position that is responsible for the acquisition and maintenance of the electronic and print materials in the NASA Goddard Library’s collections. The Eugene Public Library is seeking a forward-thinking, collaborative professional to join our management team and assume the role of planning, organizing and supervising the operations of the Technical Services work unit.  The successful candidate will be skilled and experienced in the oversight of automated acquisitions, cataloging, and physical processing of materials, and in leading union-represented staff.

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for participating in the development of the Library Division’s vision, goals, and objectives in alignment with the City of Eugene’s vision. This position works collaboratively with others to coordinate and participate in the development of the Library Division’s goals and work plan. This position manages and mentors 8.5 FTE represented staff.

Minimum Requirements:

Responsibilities:

Serve as Project Manager to guide the planning and implementation of the conversion to a new Integrated Library System in Collection Management.  Provide on-going tech support to assist Collection Management personnel in developing innovative initiatives to improve workflow and solve problems related to acquisitions, cataloging, and special collections.  Reports to the Coordinator of Collection Management.

 

  • Work closely with Systems personnel, especially the Systems Librarian, to coordinate implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting related to the Integrated Library System including initial installation, training, ILS updates and updates/problems on staff computers.
  • Help staff learn to use new software and make suggestions for applications that will increase efficiency and/or synchronize with the ILS or other systems.
  • Work closely with librarians and staff on special projects in the library.   
  • Maintain and enhance Collection Management web pages.
  • Provide workshops and training for staff when needed.
  • Assume additional collection development responsibilities, as needed.
  • Learn new computing/programming skills as required.

Qualifications:

Required:  ALA accredited master’s degree, a year of professional library experience, demonstrated technical experience with an ILS system, working knowledge of MARC format, scripting and programming skills,  knowledge of technical services operations, project management skills, communication skills, customer service orientation.  Ability to fulfill requirements for tenure and promotion.

 

Preferred:

A candidate who is knowledgeable about systems and computing applications, who learns quickly and can work with library personnel at all levels of expertise.  The candidate should be familiar with the routine functions of technical services, especially acquisitions and cataloging.  Experience with either Voyager or Millennium (III) and its components is desirable.  Measurable skills such as knowledge of XML, HTML, CSS, and languages  such as SQL, PERL, PHP, JavaScript would be helpful.

The W. P. Scott Chair in E-Librarianship provides an exciting opportunity to accelerate the development of e-librarianship in support of research, teaching, learning or scholarly communications. The research may be interdisciplinary, with a context that is broader than academic librarianship. The areas of research should be of mutual interest to the candidate and to York University Libraries so that both benefit from a close working relationship.

A strong commitment to research in any relevant area of e-librarianship such as: e-learning, digital collections, collaborative web spaces, social software, interactive and integrative online services, semantic web or cyberinfrastructure is required. The Chair must have demonstrated success in directing and conducting research or a large project. Electronic Resources Librarian

The College of New Rochelle is seeking a dynamic, service-oriented individual to fill the position of Electronic Resources Librarian.  This is a full-time, tenure track position, available September 1, 2009, reporting to the Dean of the Library.

Responsibilities include:

·         Coordination of campus-wide selection, acquisition, maintenance, access, and licensing of electronic information resources purchased or leased from publishers, aggregators, and other vendors.

·         Develop policies and procedures for managing of electronic resources; oversee licensing and compliance, tracking status, access/technology issues, database specifications, and statistical reports.

·         Responsible for implementing, updating and maintaining linking capabilities for electronic resources

·         Negotiate agreements with vendors, serve as point of contact concerning consortial agreements and represent the interests of all campuses.

·         Track developments of new and changing electronic services and resources; manage trial programs; analyze options for database access; and make recommendations for library staff. 

·         Participate as a member of a team charged with evaluating user interface options

·         Share Reference Desk coverage and participate in the planning, implementation, and teaching of library instruction.

·         Create tutorials, research guides, and other learning and information tools, in both print and Web-based formats

·         Serve as Liaison to College departments and/or schools providing orientation and instruction to students, faculty and staff with efforts directed to digital resources.

Required Qualifications:  Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program, or equivalent (second Master degree required for tenure); experience with managing access issues associated with electronic resources; knowledge and understanding of electronic publishing; working knowledge of bibliographic and metadata tools (e.g., MARC, OCLC); demonstrated ability to manage technical projects; demonstrated commitment to customer service and collaborative approaches; ability to work independently, managing a complex workload in an on time, effective manner with minimum supervision; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work well as part of a team; ability to work evenings and weekends; firm commitment to the Library’s Statement of Objectives and College Mission.

 

Preferred QualificationsExperience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. and Serials Solutions products; developing / maintaining e-resource management tools and serial records; Demonstrated experience using database management programs (e.g., Microsoft Access); knowledge of trends in resource connectivity (e.g., XML) and OpenSource.
