MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Master’s degree in library or information science; three (3) years of professional experience, including one (1) year of supervisory or training experience and demonstrated high level of computer literacy; OR, an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities of this classification; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.       

TYPICAL DUTIES:  (Illustrative Only) Supervises the District’s technical services section, including automated cataloging and authority control, processing,  preservation, and shelving; serves as backup for the Systems Librarian for server and network management (shares duty on weekends); serves as a trainer and resource person for catalogers at seven member city libraries on cataloging and developments affecting the shared countywide database, and provides quality control;  performs original and complex copy cataloging of print and nonprint materials according to national standards; assists management team in researching and implementing new technologies to enhance service delivery to customers; serves as backup for the Systems Librarian for server and network management; primary contact with OCLC/AMIGOS; develops policies and procedures for the section; prepares statistical and other reports, manuals, online tutorials, and documentation.   

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

Extensive knowledge of:

  • professional library principles, methods and standards

Considerable knowledge of:

  • structure and operation of integrated library systems;
  • cataloging and classification rules including RDA, DDC, LC subject headings, MARC format;
  • networking tools for cataloging, including Z39.50;
  • knowledge of HTML and or Web content management systems;
  • techniques for troubleshooting telecommunications network and server problems reported by libraries and arranging for efficient solutions;
  • authority control and construction of records;
  • current practices, new technologies, and trends in bibliographic control;
  • trends in library technology for communicating with and distributing content to users;
  • serves as the secondary contact for participating libraries with the system vendor and telecommunications agencies on hardware and software issues;
  • principles of hiring, training, and supervision.

Considerable skill in:

  • using OCLC and other shared cataloging tools;
  • performing original cataloging and classification;
  • communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • providing formal and informal training and support;
  • performing research, compiling and analyzing data, and preparing reports & recommendations.

Abilities to:

  • manage workload and prioritize tasks;
  • follow written and verbal instructions;
  • form and maintain collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of individuals and groups;
  • efficiently handle paperwork, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.

Georgia State University Library, Atlanta, GA: Electronic & Continuing Resources Librarian

Georgia State University Library seeks an energetic, knowledgeable and visionary librarian to provide leadership in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the University Libraries’ collection of electronic resources. 

Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, and supervising personnel in the Electronic and Continuing Resources unit of the department, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the purchase, licensing and maintenance of all electronic materials and will work closely with publishers, vendors, consortium partners and colleagues in other library departments including, but not limited to, Collection Development and Digital Library Services. The Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian will implement new electronic resource management applications and manage existing applications including SFX, MetaLib, Verde, GALILEO Local Resources Integration (GLRI) and the library’s list of databases. Other responsibilities include monitoring the evolution of these systems and identifying new alternatives for managing and exposing the library’s electronic resources; resolving issues relating to access and maintenance of electronic and continuing resources; analyzing and disseminating usage data and preparing reports to assist in collections decisions; performing administrative duties and participating in university and professional activities including research, publication, planning, procedure development and implementation, and policy and decision making processes for the department and library.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science. Knowledge of issues associated with the licensing and management of electronic resources. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

PREFERRED: Experience with the negotiation of licenses for electronic resources; experience working in an academic library; supervisory experience.

The Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, TX: Coordinator of Collection Development

Coordinates all aspects of library collection development.  Coordinates creation and revision of collection development policies with liaison librarians.  Coordinates approval plan with liaison librarians.  Coordinates examination and weeding of collection.  Provides general and subject-specific library instruction.  Participates in subject-specific collection development.  Serves as library liaison to various college disciplines/departments.  Works on the Reference Desk.  Examines gift books.  Prepares reports.  Monitors materials expenditures. 

Qualifications:

Required:  Must have MLS or equivalent from ALA accredited program.  At least 3-5 years of related experience in an academic library.  Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated strong commitment to library-customer focused services.  Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a rapidly changing, demanding, and culturally diverse environment.  Additional Desired Qualifications:    Subject Master’s degree. Knowledge of reference resources in print and electronic formats.  Experience with non-traditional and/or first-generation college students.  Experience in teaching or information literacy instruction.
