Miami University seeks an energetic and proactive librarian who enjoys a challenging, innovative and change-oriented environment. Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the Electronic Resources/Serials Librarian will have primary responsibility for management of Libraries’ electronic resources and print continuations, will oversee all activities performed in the Serials Unit, and will work closely with colleagues in Technical Services to maintain the department’s cost-effectiveness and quality of work while employing innovative technologies and practices.

Duties: Works closely with Acquisitions Librarian to ensure correct ordering of and payment for electronic and print continuations; Performs and/or supervises cataloging and works proactively to maintains access to electronic and print continuations, serials, and standing orders; Maintains electronic records in the Serials Solutions portal, the OhioLINK link resolver (OLINKS) and Miami’s III Millennium ILS; Assists in serials cancellation and weeding projects; In cooperation with the Head of Technical Services, establishes policies and local procedures to ensure local practices meet national standards, including CONSER standards; keeps Head apprised of new developments in electronic resources and serials librarianship; Resolves problems relating to electronic resource access and assists other librarians and staff with serials problem solving; Coordinates and arranges e-resource trials, obtains and maintains licenses and electronic resource agreements, and assists with licensing as requested; Responsible for additional monographic cataloging area, to be determined depending on background and library needs; Trains, supervises and evaluates support staff working with electronic resources and serials; Stays current with emerging library technologies for delivering library resources and services.

The Commonwealth Medical College Library, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, invites applications and nominations for the position of Head, Electronic Resources and Technical Services. A primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that high quality electronic resources are readily available to Medical Library clientele on a variety of platforms. This position is responsible for providing leadership in the development, maintenance and support of the Medical Library’s website, Innovative’s Millennium ILS, the Serials Solutions Knowledgebase and 360 Suite, EZProxy and other online resources. By working collaboratively with librarians, faculty and students, the Head, Electronic Resources and Technical Services will provide support to The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) curriculum and instructional program components. This position will report to the Director, Medical Library and will supervise one FTE Medical Library employee.

University of Maryland, College Park, MD : Electronic Resources Librarian

An opportunity exists for a service-oriented individual to work within the team environment of the University of Maryland (UM) Libraries in College Park, the largest university library system in the region and in close proximity to the nation’s capital.

RESPONSIBILITIES: As a member of the Acquisitions Department, the ER Librarian takes the leadership role in the procurement, licensing and management of electronic information resources purchased by the UM Libraries as well as the shared consortial resources purchased for the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) and the Maryland Digital Library (MDL) communities. Responsible for the negotiation and administration of new and existing licensing for electronic resources by maintaining a database for tracking electronic resource licenses and licensing expressions, consulting with University Counsel to resolve license and contract issues. In charge of researching license agreements in order to place new subscription orders, developing and maintaining guidelines for standard licensing terms, monitoring subscriptions in relation to existing license expirations and renewals, reviewing the impact of current licensing on post cancellation archival access, collecting usage statistics, arranging for registration and activation of electronic subscriptions, and troubleshooting e-access problems reported by patrons and other library staff.

University of Texas at Austin : Assistant Department Head, Cataloging & Metadata Services Department

The Assistant Department Head, working with the Head Librarian of the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department, coordinates, plans and manages the staff and daily operations of the department. The successful candidate will be a team player with leadership abilities who will collaboratively develop new services and mentor department staff in the cataloging of all formats. This position will lead the development and application of policy, workflows, and project management, and be looked to for expertise in the use of metadata for digital projects. The position reports to the Head Librarian, Cataloging and Metadata Services Department. Working hours are normally Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

In detail, responsibilities will include: Supervising classified and profession staff totaling 6 FTE as well as the operations of the Serials, Monograph & Media and Copy-Cataloging Services units; Serving as a resource person regarding cataloging issues both within the Department and in other areas of the Libraries; Performing original and complex cataloging and authority work for all types of formats; Managing and contributing cataloging and metadata for digital projects; As a member of the Cataloging Management Committee, participating in developing cataloging policies and procedures, and in local implementation of changes in national standards, rules and best practices for cataloging; In consultation with the Department Head and other staff, assisting to determine training needs and designs and/or coordinates and/or delivers the training curricula, and establishes performance standards for the cataloging staff; Maintaining awareness of and engagement with national and international trends and developments in cataloging and metadata standards, bibliographic and authority control, and knowledge management; Participating in library committees, task forces, and special projects, particularly those related to cataloging, metadata application and bibliographic control; Leading or coordinating selected cataloging projects to be either outsourced or managed internally.

This position reports directly to the Director of Technical Services and oversees a department of 4 librarians and 6 FTE staff. The Library has undergone and is in the midst of some exciting changes and this position offers the right candidate a chance to develop expertise with emerging technologies and become an integral participant in innovative library projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform original and complex copy cataloging in all formats and in all languages; Supervise a staff of 4 catalog librarians and the Copy Cataloging Coordinator; Provide leadership and oversight of cataloging functions including policy development, implementation and review in conjunction with catalog librarians and copy cataloging staff and non-technical services librarians; Work with the Head of Systems, Head of Database Management and Head of Electronic Resources Management to edit and load MARC records obtained from vendors in the online catalog; Hire new personnel in event of vacancies.
