Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA : Head of Continuing and Electronic Resources

The Boston College Libraries seek an energetic, engaged, and service-oriented Head of Continuing and Electronic Resources to provide leadership in a recently re-organized department of two professional librarians and six support staff. Under the leadership of a new University Librarian, the Boston College Libraries will be embarking on a strategic planning process, with organizational assessment as a priority. The Head is expected to foster a proactive and collaborative environment, and promote staff training and development to meet changing priorities and demands. He or she is also expected to establish effective and transparent standards and procedures for the acquisition, licensing, cataloging, and processing of continuing resources in all formats. The Head ensures that staffing is appropriately deployed to provide reliable management of the electronic resources which are critical to the research and teaching of the University. Candidates for this position should be well versed in the issues of scholarly communication and its relationship to journal publishing and pricing. This position reports to the AUL for Collection Services, and works collaboratively with the other Collection Services Heads, as well as staff in Systems and Public Services.

The University Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic, innovative, and team-oriented librarian to serve as manager of the E-Resources Acquisitions Section in the E-Resources & Serials Management Department. Staff in E-Resources & Serials Management work together as a collaborative, service-oriented team that strives to ensure students, faculty, and staff have easy access to the broad range of research publications provided through the University Library. Under the general direction of the Department Head, the E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian plays a leadership role within the E-Resources Acquisitions Section whose activities span the acquisition, licensing, access management, renewals, record maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic resources. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill : E-Resources Cataloger

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an innovative and knowledgeable librarian to serve in the position of E-Resources Cataloger. The E-Resources Cataloger will work in the E-Resources & Serials Management (ESM) Department within a collegial environment of e-resources specialists. The E-Resources Cataloger will serve as the ESM Department’s specialist and liaison on issues of bibliographic control and metadata related to electronic resources of all types, with a focus on commercially-produced resources for monographic titles. This position reports to the Head of the E-Resources & Serials Management Department.

The E-Resources Cataloger: catalogs electronic resources including e-books, electronic databases, websites and other electronic formats (primarily monographs and integrating resources) using OCLC’s Connexion Client and the library’s Innovative Interfaces local system; supervises one full-time support staff member who performs cataloging and maintenance functions for electronic resources; may train and supervise student assistants; communicates with vendors regarding the availability of catalog records; oversees and manages loads of vendor records for electronic resources, assuring their quality and accessibility; develops and maintains an understanding of issues related to the cataloging of e-resources; contributes to the professional dialogue to improve service and enhance access to library resources; contributes authority records to the national authority files.

University of California at Berkeley : Licensing and Contract Librarian for Digital Collections (50% position)

The University of California, Berkeley, seeks a dynamic, creative, highly-motivated librarian to serve as a licensing and contract librarian for the library’s digital collection development program. This is a three-year, 50% position with possibility for extension.

Responsibilities: This half-time position reports to the Electronic Resources Librarian and will work closely with the Director of Collections and the Acquisitions Librarian. The Licensing and Contract Librarian will be an integral member of the Digital Acquisitions Group, and will participate in special digital resource projects, new initiatives, long range planning and other ad-hoc duties as assigned. The Licensing and Contract Librarian will: Review all licenses for digital content and will have signature authority for licenses. Ensure compliance with basic license requirements. Identify new language requiring exceptional administrative review; Manage the workflow of communications with external vendors/publishers from initial communication to on-going negotiation to license signoff. -Develop a process to manage and archive electronic resource contracts and licensing workflows; Investigate and resolve breaches; Coordinate and work closely with the Technical Services Department’s acquisitions staff; Serve on the Digital Acquisitions Group and other bodies as appropriate.

Purpose of position: To develop, assess, manage the collections, electronic resources in support of teaching and research in assigned subject disciplines (business). Serves as primary negotiator of licenses for new electronic resources in all disciplines.

Essential functions: Reviews and negotiates vendor licenses for potential new digital resources using guidelines from the UT System. Works with vendors to establish trials for electronic products under consideration. Determines budget priorities, allocates funds and monitors expenditures in assigned disciplines. Establishes, monitors and refines approval plan profiles; creates and maintains policy statements for each discipline. Uses quantitative and qualitative measures to assess existing collections and to determine utility to existing and planned degree programs and research interests. Participates in unit and library-wide planning, goal-setting and implementation of services; serves on library, university and professional committees and organizations. Monitors trends in publishing, serials, copyright and licensing; participates in unit planning and goal setting.

Columbus State University, Columbus, GA : Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian

Columbus State University Libraries is seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to serve as electronic resources and systems librarian. Duties focus on oversight of the libraries’ computer technology environment and include providing advice, guidance and information on library computer technology needs; computer troubleshooting within the libraries; administering the library management system (Voyager); maintenance of the libraries’ web site; handling of licensing, installation and implementation of electronic resources, and training of library faculty and others in the use of same; and compilation of statistics. The electronic resources and systems librarian works closely with all library departments and the campus computing center on a wide variety of projects. This librarian also serves as liaison to the Department of Management Information Systems (College of Business) and the Department of Computer Science (College of Science); other departments in the College of Science may be assigned. In this capacity, he/she performs collection development and collaborates with departmental faculty to offer relevant information literacy instruction. In addition, the electronic resources and systems librarian provides assistance at the main library’s Information Commons as needed; and other duties assigned. The position is available July 1, 2009.

Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Washington, D.C. : Electronic Resources Librarian

The Research Library at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., is seeking an Electronic Resources Librarian. This new position is designed to meet the Board’s need for support in assessing, negotiating for, and acquiring data and electronic resources to meet time-sensitive research needs.

The Electronic Resources Librarian will work with Board staff to identify and acquire needed data and electronic resources to meet time-sensitive research needs. The librarian will manage the assessment and acquisitions process by conducting evaluations, participating in negotiations, reviewing site licenses and agreements, serving as a liaison to offices involved in the acquisitions process, and by guiding the acquisitions process to the point of activation. The Electronic Resources Librarian will work to raise awareness of the resources acquired, arrange for vendor training and oversee renewal audit activities. Many of the contracts for data and resources involve multiple divisions at the Board; some are consortial agreements including Federal Reserve Bank Libraries. The Electronic Resources Librarian reports to the Chief Librarian; the position is non-supervisory.
