Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks a part-time (16 hours per week) Cataloger to work under a one-year contract (with option for two additional years) on a Department of Commerce assignment in northwest Washington, D.C. This work will include: Cataloging legal and legislative collections and the trade, economics and business collection of the DOC Library; Entering the data into the Library’s on-line integrated library system, Sirsi Symphony, and setting up and maintaining serials control records in that system; Help in developing and maintaining the Library’s portal using the Rooms module from Symphony; Preparing documents for entry into the Hyperion digital archive from Sirsi.

ProQuest, a world-wide information company, employs an Associate Editor, Library of Congress to perform essential data acquisition, data capture, and quality control activities at the Library of Congress in the ISSN PL Section for both the LC CONSER and the Serials Solutions serials database.

ProQuest’s products serve as a guide to researchers, faculty, librarians, and students. The serials database feeds Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, a standard in the library community since 1932.

As Associate Editor, Library of Congress you will be a ProQuest/Serials Solutions employee but will be located in the Washington, DC office of the Library of Congress. As Associate Editor, Library of Congress you will be entering data into both the Serials Solutions and Library of Congress databases.

Position Purpose : To perform essential data acquisition, data capture and quality control activities at the Library of Congress, for both the LC CONSER and the Serials Solutions serials database.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Catalog continuing resources (i.e., serials, databases, online directories, etc.) submitted to the Library of Congress for ISSN; Input new records and update existing records online into both databases. Review national bibliographies, publisher catalogues, sample issues, and secondary sources to select new titles for addition to the serials database; Subject classify, catalogue, edit bibliographic information about US serials publications listed in Serials Solutions’ bibliographic database; Ensure ISSNs assigned by LC are added to records in Serials Solutions’ bibliographic database. • Perform quality control functions; monitor Ulrich’s entries with Announced for Publication Status; and monitor and recommend subject heading additions and changes; Assist with special projects as assigned.

Reporting to the Acquisitions Coordinator, the position: establishes professional relationships and communications with vendors, publishers and consortia, researching and assessing products, offers, and services; negotiates license agreements and costs in coordination with University Purchasing and Legal Counsel to obtain the best possible terms and conditions; provides electronic resource acquisition and subscription renewal, establishing trials and pilots when appropriate; troubleshoots access, maintenance, and other performance issues related to electronic resources; assists in maintenance of link resolver software and the ERM, tracking new software features and upgrades; designs cost efficient, effective workflows, documenting them in procedures; prepares management reports in support of collection development needs; actively communicates licensing and electronic resources best practices with library departments to promote mutual understanding of issues related to electronic resources procurement, access, and workflows.

Under the direction of the Head of Acquisitions and Serials, the Serials/ERM Librarian will work with the serials team to acquire, implement, manage and maintain access to print and electronic serials, and integrating resources. Duties and Responsibilities: Works with the serials team to manage serial and integrating resource records in the library’s automation system, including order, check-in, item and ERM records; Communicates with publishers and vendors on behalf of the library to set up trials, resolve licensing issues, and process acquisitions for electronic products; Negotiates and maintains license agreements and summarizes information on access restrictions in the library’s automation system; Establishes, monitors and troubleshoots access for electronic resources; Maintains electronic records in the local e-journal portal (Serials Solutions), the OpenURL link resolver (OLinks) and the library automation system (III Millennium); Works with serials team members to evaluate and improve access to journals in all formats; Works as part of a team to implement an electronic resource management system (III ERM); Assists in serials cancellation and weeding projects; Works with the serials team to help implement and develop policies, procedures and documentation; Participates in departmental planning and decision making; Supervises, trains and evaluates student employees and staff as appropriate; Participates in special activities and projects as assigned.
