The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University - San Marcos is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Serials Acquisitions Librarian. This position reports to the Head of Acquisitions and is responsible for supervision and management of the Serials Acquisitions Unit and the Bindery Preparation Unit, including a staff of six library assistants and related student staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, supervise, monitor and evaluate the overall operation of Serials Acquisitions and Bindery Preparation; coordinate the acquisition of new databases, e-book packages and large one-time purchases; coordinate renewal of consortium subscriptions; review serial licenses; update or supervise the updating of the library’s electronic and print holding; monitor, investigate and correct serial encumbrances and expenditures in integrated library system in coordination with the Library Accountant; coordinate the annual Serials Review; answer questions from staff and library patrons regarding databases, electronic and print serials and bindery; coordinate activities involving receipt and processing of serials gifts; prepare a variety of reports such as serials cost estimates and annual reports; make bindery decisions on new journal titles; staff reference desk approximately two hours per week (optional); engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State University’s standards for promotion for professional librarians.

University of Nebraska - Kearney : Collection Services Librarian, Asst/Assoc Professor

This is a twelve-month, tenure track appointment reporting to the Coordinator of Library Services. The Collection Services (CS) Librarian oversees Collection Development, Acquisitions (including serials), and Cataloging processes and related procedures.

The incumbent provides leadership in setting the direction and balance of collections, formulating collection policies, and evaluating library resources. The CS Librarian coordinates the selection activity of the liaison librarians, serves as liaison to assigned academic units, and coordinates cooperative collection development with other libraries, consortia, and statewide initiatives. Together with the Dean and the Electronic Resources Librarian, the CS Librarian manages the budget for resources.

The incumbent keeps abreast of developments in publishing and scholarly communication. The CS Librarian manages traditional Acquisition functions including the supervision of one staff member. The CS Librarian directs the daily operations of Cataloging Services, including the supervision of two copy catalogers.

We are seeking candidates with these attributes for a position to help manage our extensive array of electronic resources. This is a tenure-track position with faculty status and rank and requires the ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track appointment. Entry level candidates are encouraged to apply.

Position Description: The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for the day-to-day operations and workflows supporting the acquisition modules of the Libraries’ electronic resources management and access systems, and for the interpretation and representation of license and contract terms in those systems, in collaboration with the Coordinator of Electronic Resources and the Electronic Resources Licensing Team. Duties include, but are not limited to, activation and maintenance of serial access records in our link resolver, creation and maintenance of supplier and resource records in our electronic resources management system, and creation and maintenance of database access records in our federated search platform. Currently, the library uses SFX and Metalib and is in the process of implementing Gold Rush to manage its electronic resources in a Voyager environment. The librarian has primary responsibility for communications with other units of the Libraries regarding electronic resources access issues, including staff supporting Reference, Help Desk, Virtual Reference, Cataloging, and Systems. In addition, the librarian has responsibility for importing usage and other data into the systems from publisher and other sources as those system capabilities become available.

Essential functions to include: reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position sets strategic direction for acquisitions, cataloging, metadata creation, authority control, database maintenance and physical processing of all library materials including digital resources; manages a department of seven librarians (direct supervision) and fourteen support staff; responds to and anticipates user needs; plans for future activities and projects in accordance with new developments in resource discovery; serves as a member of Leadership Council, and collaborates with colleagues in library-wide planning, budgeting and policy development.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), an Honors University in Baltimore, Maryland, invites applications for the Assistant Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian position. The successful candidate will, under the direction of the Head of Serials and Acquisitions, implement and maintain access to the Library’s electronic resources, print serials collection, supervise staff and assist in the management of the Serials Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of the Head of Serials and Acquisitions, this position implements and maintains access to the library’s electronic resources of all types, is responsible for the processing of the print serials collection and assists in management of the Serials Department. This position will be responsible for ongoing day-to-day monitoring of electronic resources to ensure on-campus and remote access; assists in development of the library’s expanding electronic collections and participates in scholarly communication initiatives; develops and implements policies and procedures for electronic resources management in consultation with staff, oversees the check-in and bibliographic control of the print serials collection and supervises staff. Also, this position may provide reference services as needed, and work on projects and perform other duties as assigned.
