The Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC) invites applications for the position of Electronic Resources/Serials Librarian. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill this position, which is primarily responsible for providing leadership in the provision and management of electronic resources for the patrons of the Lewis Library. This position reports to the Senior Director for Technical Services. Primary Duties: Provides leadership in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the Lewis Library’s collection of electronic resources; Establishes professional relationships and communications with vendors, publishers, and consortia; Collaborates with UNTHSC librarians in the selection and evaluation of new resources, including coordinating trials and pilots when appropriate; Negotiates licenses for all continuing electronic materials; Coordinates the acquisition of electronic resources and serial subscriptions, including monitoring of expenditures and preparation of budget reports; Implements and assists in managing link resolver and electronic resource management tools, including Serials Solutions products; Collaborates with the Web Services Librarian, Systems Librarian, Technical Services Librarian, and others to provide access to electronic resources and promote their use; Resolves operational problems related to electronic resource access and functionality; Designs and implements efficient and effective workflows, documenting them in written procedures; Collaborates with Technical Services Librarian to maintain accurate and current records for serial holdings and coverage dates, providing updates regularly to DOCLINE, OCLC, and other library services; Gathers and compiles usage statistics for all subscription resources, providing reports upon request to inform collection development decisions; Supervises 3 FTE employees, providing mentoring, training, performance evaluation, and priority-setting; Evaluates E-Resources staff development needs and coordinates training opportunities; Keeps current with developments in electronic resources and serials management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborates with the Acquisitions Resource Planning Librarian and relevant personnel and departments in planning, setting goals and monitoring workflows concerning the physical processing of print serials (including check-in, claiming, title maintenance and binding); attends meetings with members of the Technical Services Management Team and participates in the Library Coordinators group meetings; solves complex problems that arise during the processing of serials resources; assists in managing the Acquisitions/Serials Department staff’s creation and payment of serial orders and invoices within the Acquisitions module of the Libraries’ Unicorn Workflows integrated library system; supervises four check-in staff and two binding unit staff; participates in the training of Acquisitions/Serials Departments staff; assist in the authentication, activation and maintenance of access to e-serials; manages and carries out procedures pertaining to the processing of invoices for microform and print serials resources; maintains ongoing contacts with publishers and vendors; collaborates with serials cataloging to assist with record maintenance; keep abreast of current trends, standards and developments in the serials industry regarding vendor-developed services, resources, automated systems and publishing models; participates in appropriate collection development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic departments; meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality. University of Michigan at Ann Arbor : Electronic Resources Cataloger

The Electronic Resources Cataloging Unit is one of three units within the newly created Electronic Resources Development Section of the Technical Services Division at the University of Michigan Library. This unit provides and maintains access via records in the local integrated library system (Aleph) and the SFX knowledge base to electronic journals and monographs, online databases, Web sites, and non-Web based remote electronic resources. Access is provided for titles in subscription packages, individually subscribed titles, and open access titles identified for addition to the collection by selectors. In collaboration with the Data Loads and Development Unit, the Electronic Resources Cataloging Unit works with vendors to acquire and load MARC record sets for electronic books and journals in online collections. As needed, the unit’s staff members assist in resolving access and coverage problems associated with the Aleph and SFX records created for electronic resources.

Under the direction of the Head of the Electronic Resources Cataloging Unit, the duties and responsibilities of this position are to: Independently catalog electronic resources in all subjects and in all Western European languages; Create or edit bibliographic records for all types of electronic resources according to nationally and locally established procedures; Assist in the maintenance required to ensure ongoing access to the library’s cataloged electronic resources; Participate in batch loading records for collections of online journals and electronic books; Assist in training staff to catalog and maintain access to electronic resources; Contribute to reviewing, developing, and writing local procedures and documentation; Investigate and resolve problems referred to the unit; Participate in unit, division, and library-wide committees, task forces, projects, and other collaborative initiatives.

This position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to a self-motivated department which includes two professional librarians and seven support staff positions. The Head of C&ER also works very closely with the Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian and the Digital Resources Reference Librarian to ensure effective management and licensing of electronic resources.

MOBIUS, Columbia, MO : Library Support Representative

This is a professional Librarian position responsible for providing technical support and training services to MOBIUS member institutions. Work assignments typically involve the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and training of diverse and sometimes complex, software applications and hardware systems. Responsibilities include the staffing of a central support center that provides a single point of contact for customers seeking consultation, training, and technical support assistance.

MOBIUS is a consortium of Missouri college and university libraries, public libraries and the Missouri State Library. Serving more than 750,000 students, faculty, and staff at 60 institutions, MOBIUS’s membership also includes 2 public libraries and the Missouri State Library. The largest single project for which MOBIUS is responsible is the Common Library Platform (CLP). The CLP creates a virtual collection of the more than 20 million items contained in the libraries of MOBIUS member institutions and creates a single user interface that allows patrons to request library materials using any personal computer in any location with access to the Internet. Requested materials are delivered within one or two days of being requested by the MOBIUS Delivery System. MOBIUS has an active program of consortial licensing of electronic information resources such as electronic journals. In 2006 MOBIUS started a cooperative collection development project.
