Cameron University Library seeks a creative and service-oriented librarian to serve as Technical and Electronic Services Librarian. The person who fills the position will supervise the library’s serials control operations and maintain and improve the library’s web pages and Innovative Interfaces and Serials Solutions software programs. He or she will participate in some reference desk and classroom instruction work. Some evening and weekend work is required. This is a twelve month, faculty status position.

As a member of the Collection Management Department, and under general direction of the Coordinator, provide technological skills and computer support to assist Collection Management personnel and to develop innovative initiatives to meet challenges related to acquisitions, cataloging, and special collections. Work closely with Systems personnel to coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting related to the integrated library system (ILS) including ILS updates and updates/problems on staff computers. Help staff learn to use new software and make suggestions for applications that will increase efficiency and/or synchronize with the ILS or other systems. Run reports and provide statistical information when requested from Collection Management personnel. Work closely with Collection Management librarians on special projects. Maintain and enhance Collection Management web pages. Provide workshops and training for staff when needed. Assume selected collection development responsibilities.

The successful candidate will provide leadership/managerial direction and oversight for Technical Services operations and services within the Collections & Technical Services Department. Directly supervises one librarian and 4 support staff with a total staff of 25.

Responsibilities: Develops and manages effective operations and services that meet user needs, support departmental goals & objectives, and supports the library’s mission; Provides progressive vision and strategic direction for the section; Establishes overall workflows, policies, and procedures and coordinates acquisitions, cataloging, processing, binding & serial resources procedures in consultation with the AUL for Collections and Technical Services and section personnel; Establishes section goals and objectives in consultation with the AUL for Collections and Technical Services and section personnel; Monitors Departmental budget and ensures that funds are appropriately expended; Monitors maintenance of section facilities; Plans for, develops, and manages personnel; Designs jobs to meet the operational needs of the Department (roles, duties, responsibilities); Ensures that job descriptions and work plans are up-to-date; Participates in recruitment and selection of employees; Coaches employees to perform to the best of their abilities and skills; Ensures that all employees are kept current on the knowledge and skills needed to perform assigned tasks; Communicates performance expectations; Ensures that all section employees are fairly evaluated according to established procedures; Acts as a resource person for all employees in the area; Handles employee relations issues; Provides training and support for new/upgraded working software used by Collections & Technical Services Department personnel (ILS modules, OCLC software, etc.); Keeps self and section personnel up-to-date with functional changes/enhancements in specialty software and interfaces used by Technical Services section personnel. (e.g., Innovative technical services modules, OCLC interfaces & client software, EbscoNet, Collection Manager and other vendor provided systems, Cataloger’s Desktop, Classification Web); Assists in the functional implementation of new ILS modules used by Departmental personnel and coordinates training of Departmental personnel in the mechanics and use of specialty software and interfaces; Provides research support for Library collection analysis activities; Develops and performs collection statistical studies in support of the liaison program and other library initiatives; Provides research support for Innovative’s data listing and statistical reporting functionality.

Williams College Libraries seeks candidates for the position of Head of Collection Development and Acquisitions. This position offers a unique opportunity to manage a $2.5 million materials budget, to lead collection initiatives and establish acquisitions policies at a top-ranked liberal arts college. Coordinating the work of 11 subject liaisons, this person will have an exciting role in developing the future of library collections as the college begins the construction of a new integrated library and technology center to open in 2011. The Head of Collection Development and Acquisitions reports to the College Librarian. This position is a full-time, 12-month administrative staff position.

Responsibilities: Prepares and justifies library budgets in conjunction with the College Librarian. Makes allocations and tracks expenditures for all acquisitions funds. Evaluates vendor performance and negotiates with vendors for service fees and discounts. Monitors faculty curricular and research interests and incorporates changes in the Williams curriculum. Oversees purchasing priorities. Coordinates review and selection of electronic resources and chairs the Library’s Electronic Resources Group. Negotiates license terms and pricing for electronic resources and media materials. Leads the implementation of the Library’s Electronic Resource Management module. Directs the Library’s digitization initiatives. As a Boston Library Consortium collection manager, represents the Williams College Libraries in frequent meetings with BLC counterparts. Participates in BLC initiatives including the Cooperative Collection Development Working Group. Supervises five Acquisitions support staff.

George Mason University Libraries seeks a Director, Technical Services who will provide innovative, experienced leadership in all technical services areas, presently organized as three constituent units: Acquisitions (all formats), Serials Management, and Cataloging & Metadata Services. The University Libraries typically catalog more than 40,000 books/other research items yearly; and manages 6,000 print/30,000 electronic serials, and 500 electronic databases. Technical Services includes a total staff of seven librarians, 17 full-time paraprofessionals and four FTE student assistants. In anticipation of evolving developments within scholarly communications, trends in the academic/research marketplace, and learning/research priorities of the university, s/he will ensure both operational excellence and a forward-looking evolution of our technical services functions. S/he will provide oversight of professional development and training for all Technical Services staff; set broad goals for Technical Services; and ensure that all policies, procedures and workflows are appropriate for accomplishing the work of the units and for successfully meeting patron expectations in our increasingly digital environment.
