The J. Willard Marriott Library has new librarian leadership opportunities as a result of the implementation of an innovative organizational restructuring and the completion of a $90 million, state of the art library renovation. We are moving quickly to new models of service and leadership. This position offers the opportunity to be a part of our transforming library. Reporting to the Marriott Library’s Associate Director for Scholarly Resources and Collections, the Head of Technical Services provides dynamic and innovative leadership for the evolving areas of acquisitions (both monographic and serial, in all formats) and metadata creation and management in the Marriott Library, the main library of the University of Utah. The HTS directly supervises the managers of the Monographs, Serials, MARC Metadata and Digital Collections Metadata units, taking responsibility for the overall operational effectiveness and efficiency of those areas and establishing policies and procedures that anticipate the future directions of the scholarly communication marketplace, the priorities of the University of Utah, and the needs of the Libraries’ patrons. S/he will develop goals, policies, and workflows, foster staff development, and guide the division into an increasingly digital and patron-centered future.

This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the development of web-based digital access to the transportation collections. The Digital Collections Project Manager will work with a variety of teams to develop and implement a plan to select transportation-related objects for an online database, coordinate content development, develop and implement policies, procedures and standards, and evaluate usability and user satisfaction. This is a grant-funded position that ends 12/31/09 with possibility of extension.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Program Director for Collections, the Electronic Resources (ER) Coordinator coordinates selection, licensing, and accessibility of electronic resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for the general electronic resources budget, management of electronic resources, user support and training, and the collection and analysis of usage statistics. The ER Coordinator works closely with research librarians and the Collection Management Committee to develop an appropriate electronic resources collection for the UH Libraries. The ER Coordinator works closely with vendors to set up trials, negotiate pricing and licensing, and provide ongoing maintenance. The ER Coordinator will work with one staff direct report on the communication of information concerning electronic resources such as downtimes, upgrades, and scheduled administrative changes; communication of technical issues with any given resource to both the user community and vendors, and trouble-shooting difficult user access problems.

Queen’s University Library is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and service-oriented Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Central Technical Services unit, the Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for the supervision of the Serials Group and for managing the acquisition of electronic resources as well as serials and other continuing resources in all formats. The librarian oversees the group’s work, troubleshoots electronic resource access problems, and cooperates with other areas (including Collections, Systems, and individual unit libraries) in maintaining data in the Library’s electronic resource management systems. The librarian monitors trends in scholarly publishing, electronic resource management, technical services, and serials, providing leadership in the formulation of policies. In cooperation with the Unit Head, the Cataloguing/Training Librarian, and others, the librarian develops and delivers training initiatives. The librarian assists and advises the Unit Head with the effective and efficient organization of work in the Unit. The librarian acts as a cataloguing resource for staff and performs some original cataloguing. The librarian works collaboratively with all staff and participates beyond the Unit in the promotion of Queen’s University Library’s vision of the learning organization.

The John E. Jaqua Law Library at the University of Oregon seeks a creative, skilled, and service-oriented colleague for the position of Law Collections and Electronic Resources Librarian. This position manages all aspects of collection development and acquisitions, focusing particularly on electronic resources, as we move into the evolving learning environment. The Jaqua Law Library maintains over 350,000 volumes and volume equivalents in print, electronic, and multimedia and micro-formats, and supports the teaching, research, and service activities of the University of Oregon Law School, which has approximately 540 students. The Law Library provides primary and secondary legal materials as well as specialized collections in environmental law, business law, ADR, ocean law, Indian law, and family law. As a key component of the University of Oregon Libraries, Law Library staff members are active partners in improving access to scholarly resources. The Law Library team is composed of 7.0 FTE library faculty, 6.0 FTE support staff members, and numerous student workers.

Catalogs serials, electronic resources, and other continuing resources in all formats according to the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (2nd edition, 1998 revision) as interpreted by the Library of Congress, following CONSER guidelines, classified using the LC Classification scheme, and provided subject access using the LC Subject Headings. Maintains and contributes original CONSER records as part of the LC Program on Cooperative Cataloging. Creates, as necessary, name authority records according to the MARC21 authority format. As a participant in the LC Program on Cooperative Cataloging, UCB catalogers may contribute original records to the NACO program. Works collaboratively with Collection Core Services and collection specialists to resolve complex access issues to electronic resources. Monitors cataloging and metadata standards development and LC changes in cataloging practices/policies with regard to electronic and continuing resources ; analyzes impacts of these changes and makes recommendations for appropriate changes in local practice. UC Berkeley librarians are expected to participate in Library-wide planning and governance, to be able to work comfortably and effectively in a shared decision-making environment, and to be active professionally. In order to advance in the Librarian series, the successful candidate is expected to show evidence of professional growth and contributions beyond the primary assignment. The successful candidate will show promise or evidence of such contributions.

The department is responsible for acquisition, cataloging and access to library materials in all formats using the Innovative Interfaces system. The position will directly supervise the librarians who manage the Resource Processing & Description and Resource Maintenance units. The position will also have direct supervisory responsibility for the Resource Procurement unit whose functions include the acquisition of library materials in all formats and the management of a library materials budget of over $2,000,000. As the Head of Technical Services, the successful applicant will facilitate collaboration across the three units and provide leadership in the application of appropriate technology. The person in this position must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of groups and individuals. The person in this position is also expected to contribute to reference service, library instruction, or collection development.
