Reporting to the Head of Collection Development the Collection Development Assistant and Periodicals Manager is responsible for ordering, maintaining records in an online serials management system (e.g. order, payment, check-in), creating and maintaining holdings information and links, and managing the print periodical collection stacks; ensures materials are processed for all library formats, including binding and preservation activities; supervises one library assistant (.50 FTE) and 3-5 student assistants (1-2 FTE).

The U.S. Geological Survey is seeking to fill the following position:

NATIONAL LIBRARY COORDINATOR, USGS LIBRARY SYSTEM

The incumbent provides national leadership to one of the largest earth science library systems consisting of four libraries. While no direct supervision is involved, the position includes duties in the following areas:

Management: develops long–range plans in anticipation of changes in science program needs, new information technology, or funding; formulates management policy and plans; facilitates the transition toward advanced digital library presence.

Coordination: coordinates system-wide collection development, management, and preservation of earth science library materials in all formats, including electronic; coordinates library acquisitions and operations with regional managers of the 4 main libraries and some 15 science center libraries concerning significant purchases such as licensing of databases, electronic journal subscriptions, or the acquisition of other major electronic resources or services.

Represents the USGS libraries on various internal and external committees and at conferences; participates in consortial library activities.

Series/Grade: GS-1410A-13/14

Salary: $77,353.00 TO $118,828.00

Promotion Potential: GS-14
