Serials Coordinator, Assistant to Associate Professor
Reporting to the Director of Technology and Information Services. The Serials Coordinator is responsible for evaluating, selecting, managing, accessibility and promoting the collection of continuing paper and electronic resources. Duties include managing the Periodicals Service Desk and Unit, consisting of 7.4 FTEs, and working with Reference Staff and Desk. Responsible for maintaining statistical data on usage and assessing user satisfaction for strategic decisions. Participates in library planning, outcomes assessment, committees and national professional development.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in selecting database products, experience with technologies used to provide access to databases and electronic resources; experience using and training staff in an integrated system with serials control; experience with serials marketplace. ALA accredited MLS degree. Superior communication and collaborative skills; ability to function in team environment and manage projects; ability to train staff in library applications. Additional desirable qualifications; second subject master’s degree, 3 – 4 years’ serials/database experience in academic library, knowledge of acquisitions and cataloging of serials.

This position will work closely with Licensed Resources staff on activities associated with the acquisition of electronic resources for the General Library System. Responsibilities

Requirements
1. Experience with receipt, check-in and routing of library periodical
and other serial publications;

desirable;
3. Investigating missing issues;
4. Sorting and distributing mail;
5. Solid computer and keyboard skills: software (Work, Lotus, Acrobat),
Internet searching, online library systems;
6. Familiarity with SydneyPlus desirable;
7. Acquainted with using conventional office equipment (copier, digital
scanner);
8. Skilled in alphabetical and numeric filing;
9. Excellent interpersonal skills;
10. Strong attention to detail;
11. Ability to work in team environment;
12. Ability to follow written and oral instruction;
Reporting to the Dean of Library Services, the Coordinator of Collection Development provides leadership and vision for collection development programs and planning; coordinates materials selection; assesses and evaluates collections and gathers relevant statistics. The Coordinator selects and identifies materials needed to support the University curricula and collaborates with and provides outreach to University faculty. This is a tenure track position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution is required. A second Master’s degree in a related field is required for tenure. Two years of professional experience in collection development in an academic library; Evidence of ability to manage and coordinate a collection development program; Understanding of trends in scholarly communication and the publishing industry.
