MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates or Bachelors degree (or equivalent) preferably related to library or information science. Previous library experience desirable. Familiarity with standard software such as Microsoft Office. Strong customer service skills and commitment to teamwork. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Ability to analyze and categorize information. Must be a citizen of the United States able to obtain a government Interim Secret clearance leading to an eventual Top Secret clearance as well as meet Suitability requirements of the DHS. Familiarity with EndNote and Reference Manager helpful. Familiarity with Documentum. Familiarity with reading and understanding bibliographic records desirable.

Description of Work

This position manages staff and operations of the Cataloging & Metadata Services Branch in the State Library s Government & Heritage
Library (GHL) and provides leadership for cataloging and metadata- related activities. Performs complex cataloging; trains and mentors
cataloging staff; coordinates metadata record creation; oversees maintenance of controlled vocabularies and NC authorities; and manages
quality control of MARC and Dublin Core records in Voyager and CONTENTdm. Actively participates and lends cataloging knowledge and

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of library science practices related to cataloging, metadata, library systems, and user access; current & emergent
cataloging/metadata rules (AACR2, FRBR, RDA), practices, and standards (MARC, Dublin Core); Dewey/LC classification; LCSH; proprietary & open
source ILS options; LC/OCLC cataloging tools; database reports; and digital content management system & collections. Demonstrated ability
to provide vision for cataloging & metadata services; formulate, communicate, & implement cataloging strategies to maximize user access

Training and Experience Requirements

Master s degree in library and information science or a related discipline and three years of professional librarian experience
related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Degree must be received from appropriately

The Coleman Karesh Law Library at the University of South Carolina School of Law seeks a dynamic leader to be Head of Technical Services. The successful candidate will supervise the operations of the Technical Services Department including ordering, payment for and receipt of library materials in all formats, planning and assessment of the department’s work, work flow efficiency, fiscal responsibility, binding of library materials, shelf reading, technology, and personnel development. The Head of Technical Services periodically reviews and evaluates policies and procedures relating to areas of responsibility and develops or updates policies and procedures as needed. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for the Library.

Required Qualifications:

Perform cataloging, classification, authority control, database maintenance and related work for legal materials in a comprehensive law library collection that includes primary and secondary material for all jurisdictions, languages, formats and material types. Supervises student staff and may supervise full-time staff.

Minimum qualifications:
Masters Degree in Information or Library Science from a U.S. accredited graduate school; formal coursework in cataloging and classification or equivalent experience; working knowledge of at least one European language; excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; creativity and adaptability in the face of multiple simultaneous demands; knowledge of and experience with one or more modules of a library management system. Entry level candidates welcome.

Desired qualifications:

Serials Resources Librarian - Wisconsin Historical Society

Serials Resources Librarian (Wisconsin Historical Society)
The Library-Archives Division of the Wisconsin Historical Society seeks a talented, energetic, and forward-looking person to assume responsibility for its serials acquisition and collection development work. The Society’s library forms part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison library system and holds significant collections documenting American political, labor, and religious history; African-American and American Indian history; as well as collections on social activism, the history of radicalism, and genealogy. The library’s newspaper and periodicals collecting efforts reflect all these areas and also include a comprehensive collection of Wisconsin newspapers as well as newspapers and periodicals holdings documenting the U.S. Armed Forces.

This position is responsible for the selection, acquisition, and related collection development tasks for serials holdings. It is also responsible for evaluating new content formats including electronic serials resources and for helping to chart the course for the library’s transition from print to electronic holdings for selected titles. This position works in cooperation with other professional staff members to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement all serials work.

Qualifications:
A well qualified candidate will have an MLS degree from an accredited graduate library science program in addition to professional work experience with collection development issues and practices in research libraries; experience with approval plans, serials management tools, vendor relations, and licensing issues; knowledge of library collection assessment tools; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of evolving research trends in scholarly communications; the ability to effectively oversee the work of students and limited term employees; and knowledge of electronic serials resources.

SERIALS LIBRARIAN

The Ingalls Library of the Cleveland Museum of Art invites applications from motivated and innovative librarians to provide leadership and expertise for print serials, auction catalogs, electronic resources and related activities.  The Serials Librarian manages a department comprised of two para-professional staff and reports to the Associate Librarian for Technical Services.  The department is responsible for the selection, acquisition, licensing, processing, access and ongoing maintenance of print serials, auction catalogs and electronic resources. The Serials Librarian reviews vendor performance, oversees the annual budget and ensures the quality of serials control records in the integrated library system (Aleph).  The position evaluates binding/preservation needs and plans for future storage and facility needs for serials and auction catalogs.  The position provides reference service related to serials and electronic resources as needed.

The Ingalls Library is a nationally recognized art reference library (including image library and museum archives).  Founded in 1916, the library contains approximately 450,000 volumes, including journals, 92,000 auction catalogues, and 24,000 clipping files.   The image library contains approximately 285,000 digital images, and 6,000,000 photographs of works of art and architecture, including individual photographs and microfiche.

Requirements:  Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program; minimum of two years related experience and/or training, preferably in a research library, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in art history; project management experience; policy development.  Prior knowledge of acquisitions practices, including copyright, intellectual property and licensing terms/issues in a networked environment; knowledge of link resolver software, electronic resource management, and integrated library systems; working knowledge of at least one European language, preferably Italian, French, German or Dutch; demonstrated skills in management, supervision and training; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; flexibility and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment.

Cataloging Library Clerks - Washington, DC

LAC seeks Library Clerks for a cataloging project at a government agency in Washington, DC.  This is a full-time contract position for 1 - 2 years.  The clerks will be transcribing bibliographic data from catalog cards into MARC records in an online integrated library system. We are looking for people with at least 2 years of experience creating and updating MARC bibliographic records.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Two or more years experience creating, revising and/or updating bibliographic records in MARC format;
  • Familiarity with MARC format, cataloging rules;
  • Strong attention to detail;
